Abstract: Modern telecommunication scenarios, especially those related to 5G, pose significant challenges to electromagnetic simulation tools. The scenarios are extremely large in terms of wavelengths and are geometrically complicated. Even ray-tracing methods can easily require too much simulation time, as too many rays need to be traced. This presentation was given as a keynote speech at MOMAG 2018. It compares several electromagnetic simulation methods for indoor, urban and rural propagation, and discusses the trade-offs in accuracy and simulation time.
